I love a bright space. It feels wonderful to enter into a space that is bright and welcoming. Here are a 5 ideas and tips to help brighten up your space.
1. Paint it White
Painting a room white or a light color can brighten up a space and help the room look bigger. Nothing creates a better illusion of space than the color white. Make sure when choosing white that you also use other colors so that your space does not look dull. You can play with a few colors and patterns that look bright and add interest without darkening your room.
By painting your ceiling white it can open up your space. Here is a great example of a room that has a rather dark and deep color scheme. With the trim and the ceiling painted white the space looks brighter.
2. Using Lighting
Lighting is a crucial step in any interior design project. Make sure that the room you are trying to lighten and enhance visually has enough lighting. While natural lighting works great to make any small room appear larger, it is not always an option. There are many options to use as your lighting source in a room. Overhead lighting like can lights, chandeliers, wall sconces, hanging pennants, lamps and under cabinet lighting are perfect lighting sources to use in your space. You can brighten up your space instantly by incorporating any of these items into your space.
Using mirrors is a great idea because it is reflective and creates the illusion of more space. You can increase the appearance of the size of the space by adding wall mirrors. They are perfect element to add because they reflect light and color. A repeated pattern of mirrors hung on a wall can easily add as a decorative element as well as make the room look much bigger.
4. Less is more
Using the minimalist approach opens up a space. Placing to many pieces of furniture in a small place can overwhelm the room. Also remember to limit the number of accessories to avoid a cluttered feeling.
5. Choose light colored furniture
Simply by choosing lighht colored furniture you can brighten up your space. You can revamp pieces that you already have pay repainting them in a light color. And remember the power of white paint - White reflects light sending off a wonderful energy and brightness.
